In the Sound it rains on two out of three days, sometimes up to 30 cm per day, a total of about 8 m per year. Today was one of those days. So lucky. Demanding blue sky would be too much. The many high waterfalls, the outrageously green wooded canyons, and the mountains in the background were almost at their best. The Maori have called the Sound the 'Place of Silence'. Rightly so.
Already at 8 o'clock we started in Manapouri. First about 1 hour by boat across Lake Manapouri, then 20 km by bus across Wilmot Pass, and then again by boat for about 3 hours through various arms of the Sound to the open sea access, the Tasman Sea. And back again.
A very worth seeing piece of land. Suitable for Easter Sunday...
