On our 3rd weekend we rented a car for the first time. This is a big challenge for us as it is left-hand traffic here.
Our road trip followed the coastal road Route 44, also known as Whale Route. The Whale Route starts in Gordons bay where our accommodation is located and goes all the way to Hermanus.
Along the coastal road, there is a Penguin Point where we made a stop. Penguins live here in the wild, unlike the overcrowded Simons town.
Hermanus is known for whale mating and giving birth during the winter season. Therefore, this is the best place to spot whales. Unfortunately, despite multiple attempts, hours of waiting, and a lot of patience, we didn't see any whales, but we did encounter a seal who gave us his attention.
Hermanus also has a charming little town with many restaurants and bars where you can indulge yourself.
Furthermore, Hermanus has a small market where you can buy many handmade things.
In the afternoon, we always treated ourselves to ice cream there.
On Friday and Saturday evenings, we went to a great bar called "Wine Glass" and did wine tasting - once with white wine and once with red wine.
We always stayed overnight in a hostel right in Hermanus.
On Sunday morning, we drove around a few beaches around Hermanus and returned to our house along the coast at noon. There, we enjoyed the afternoon on the terrace in the sunshine.
