Route: Danube Cycle Path 3(Travel to Vienna)
Kilometers traveled: 12
Highlight of the day: Taking the train without any problems or controls - and the subway!
In 2018, my friend Julius and I went on a 5-week bike tour to the Black Sea. And because I'm feeling so wanderlust right now, I'm going to tell you about it here.
The day started at 6:00, and the train left Parsberg at 7:43. Julius' tire came off the rack when we first carried the bikes, but the problem was quickly solved. After that, the train ride went smoothly. There was a couple on the train to Passau who had already done many tours and now wanted to ride from Passau to Belgrade. There were also 3 girls with the same plans we had 5 years ago - exactly the same plans. When we arrived in Passau, we missed the connecting train, which we had already expected. So we found a small restaurant in the city to have breakfast. It was plentiful and delicious! With a nice view of the Danube. Then we continued. On the way to Linz, there were a lot of 16-year-olds with beer and all wearing white T-shirts. It turned out that they were going to a Holy Festival in Linz. We arrived at Vienna Westbahnhof at around 16:45. After about 1 hour, we found our previously booked hostel in Brigittenau. On the way there, we saw a lot of Vienna's old town - I still think Vienna is amazing. And it has a really good bike network!
Once in the room, we made ourselves comfortable - a very nice new room, air-conditioned. Then we went back to the city center without our bikes, first on foot, but we walked for a long time because our S-Bahn train (we weren't on it yet) had a technical problem, even the police were there. So we kept walking and luckily found a subway. We took the subway, strolled through the city a bit, and gathered impressions. Vienna is so clean! And hardly any homeless people! And everywhere there are beautiful buildings, statues, and parks. Finally, we randomly found a very delicious restaurant next to a fountain in a side street, where we ate. On the way back, we passed by St. Stephen's Cathedral and Julius got an ice cream. Now we're both exhausted from the heat. But it was really nice and a successful evening.
