The island of Fehmarn is best explored by bike. There are a total of 300 km of signposted cycle paths and many bike shops, especially in and around the main town of Burg, which rent bikes of all kinds cheaply and easily.
In 4 days, I discover the approximately 80 km long beautiful coastal route that goes directly around the island by the sea, but also ride through the inland and enjoy the picturesque villages, the rapeseed fields in full bloom, and the still green wheat fields gently swaying in the wind. It seems to me as if the whole island is one big nature reserve. Along the way, I encounter many animals that seem to nibble on bushes and grasses without hesitation next to the cycle paths. I often have to avoid sheep crossing the path leisurely with their young ones.
Along the way, I strengthen myself at picturesque campsites that usually have their own shops and restaurants and sit on the beach for a few hours to rest and relax.
After 4 days of pure nature and relaxation, I make a stopover in Lübeck on the way back to Berlin and discover the very pretty city on the lower Trave river with the Holsten Gate, the Town Hall, and many narrow alleys and courtyards, all of which are decorated with flowers and invitingly decorated. The stopover was definitely worth it!!
