Today is a sunny, warm day. We decide to visit the Krka Waterfalls. Marik protests at first because he is busy scooping small stones into a bucket and making 'cakes' out of them. After applying sunscreen, we drive to Skradin, which is about 20 km away. We park a bit outside at a side entrance of the Krka National Park and there are hardly any other people there. We walk along a wide gravel path for about 3.5 km along the river to the famous waterfalls. The Krka River has turquoise blue water and peacefully winds through the landscape. The calcareous water of the Krka River has created typical karst formations in the landscape.
Along the way, we encounter a fisherman and many mountain bikers. We see ships passing by, bringing crowds of tourists to the waterfalls. Marik walks a large part of the way and collects stones that he wants to throw into the 'Umfallwasser' (Marikish for waterfall) later.
We come across many lizards on our way. It takes us about an hour to reach the waterfalls. It immediately becomes touristy. These waterfalls are also very impressive and have been a filming location for a Winnetou movie ('Der Ölprinz').
The river cascades into the valley in several levels. We mainly stay at the Skradinski Buk, a 46 m high waterfall and the highest travertine barrier in Europe. From June onwards, you can even swim at the foot of the waterfall.
Since we don't feel like walking back in the heat, we decide to take a boat back to Skradin.
After a 30-minute boat ride, we arrive in the small fishing village and stroll through the alleys.
It is one of the oldest cities in Croatia. We find a café and have ice cream.
Leonora is teething and her crying echoes through the streets. As a result, we leave the café and walk about another kilometer back to the car. Marik doesn't want to walk anymore and lets himself be pushed around in Leo's stroller.
The kids are exhausted and immediately fall asleep on the way back.
Back at the campsite, Tobi and I jump into the sea. However, we can't stand it for long because the water temperature is 17°C. We spend the evening at the beach and Marik tries to catch fish with his fishing net.
We show him a sea urchin. Leonora plays on our beach mat with stones and watches the sea.
She is very relaxed on vacation, except for occasional teething episodes, and has a big appetite.
Today, we cook in the caravan and have a glass of wine.
We really like it here in Šibenik and decide to stay for 2 more nights.
