Day 4
distance traveled: 26 km
After a peaceful night's sleep, we wake up refreshed and prepare breakfast. After a hearty meal, we head to the parking lot we went to yesterday. This is our starting point for today's hike. The hike is about 10 km long with an elevation gain of about 600 meters and takes us to the summit of the Schneeberg and the Nußhardt. The Nußhardt is a granite rock formation that has been exposed over time and smoothed by wind and weather.
We discovered the hike using the app "Komoot". In the app, people can create and publish routes that can be followed.
With provisions consisting of tea, water, bread, as well as sausage and cheese, we start our ascent.
It is still very cold, and where the sun does not reach (or never reaches), it is even colder. But the cold doesn't bother us much, as we are dressed warmly. However, soon the steepness starts to take its toll and we start to sweat. The only remedy for this is to occasionally stop and admire the beautiful landscape.
We come across very beautiful boulders covered in moss with several meters in diameter, as well as primeval forest sections where one can imagine goblins, trolls, and elves hiding for centuries. It's simply wonderful, I must say.
After 2 hours, we finally reach the summit, huffing and puffing. Yay…:)
We enjoy the view from a small observation platform and take some photos. On the way there, we have to pass a stone staircase that was covered in ice. I promptly slip and hit my shin. But other than that, everything is fine. Even on the way back.
After a while, we find a pile of rocks scattered around the summit and enjoy our provisions.
Feeling refreshed and rested, we start the descent. This will lead us, just like the ascent, through this amazing landscape. Among other things, we will pass by the Nußhardt summit, which I mentioned earlier.
After some time, we are exhausted but happy as we reach our camper again. We drive to the motorhome parking lot where we parked this morning and cook something delicious for dinner. It's spaghetti bolognese again.
Finally, we end the day just like the previous day, with reading and cozying up with Netflix.
Good night.
