Since you never know in advance if you might end up in an unpleasant situation and possibly get robbed - especially if you're far away from home - it's not a bad idea to have some extra money on you. After all, while backpacking, it's possible to lose all your belongings and be left with nothing! So, how can you get in touch with someone in such a situation? How do you find out where the nearest police station or embassy is? How do you get there?...
All these questions can be answered quite simply: money!
This is where a discreet money belt comes in handy! It's a regular belt with a zippered pocket on the inside. At least it's spacious enough to hold a 50€ bill. This way, you have the means to take a taxi to the nearest police station or embassy and you also have something to eat/drink until you can get back on your feet.
By the way, the belt can even look cheap, so it's not tempting to steal it ;-)
