The paving in front of the hotel is in full swing and we drive off after I claim and receive a 15% discount due to the noise. We first stop at the gas station and clean our car. Whether from the saltwater or the fallout from the endless oil refineries, the car is so dirty that you can't see through the windows anymore.
We choose our way to San Antonio on a more pleasant route, rather than the fast highway, following State Highway 332 and then onto the 35, so we drive through the countryside and only arrive on Interstate 10, which leads to San Antonio, quite late. Several road signs refer to German founding fathers, which is always funny to see.
We are hit by a gigantic storm with lightning and thunder and torrential rain on the I-10.
We reached our hotel The Crockett at 15:00 and are happy about a room with a view of the street and not into the hotel lobby. Although the windows cannot be opened, it is still nicer.
The hotel is a National Historic Place and the room is nice and big with a good bathroom.
When the rain stops, we go to the cinema opposite, get tickets for the IMAX film about the Battle of the Alamo. The film is well made and informative.
When we walk by the cinema again to watch Rio2, we realize that the cinema is supposed to be a better living room and decide not to go. So we have another drink on the Riverwalk and walk back to the hotel along the beautifully illuminated Alamo, which is only 200 m away.
Colorfully illuminated kitsch carriages are driving around everywhere. The poor animals! But beautiful-American-spooky!
