In early August this year, I took a three-day short trip to Bamberg with my friends from the seminar. Bamberg is a beautiful city that is not far from where I live.
In addition to the company, we also enjoyed the culinary delights and ate Schäufele (a traditional dish) and drank local beers, including the well-known smoked beer. As the name suggests, it tastes like smoked food.
We visited the castle, walked through Little Venice, and along the River Regnitz. We enjoyed the view from various bridges, including the old town hall, which stands in the middle of the river and serves as a backdrop for hour-long photo sessions of Instagram celebrities. The town hall was built in the river by the people of Bamberg because the Lord of Bamberg refused to give them 'a piece of his land'. So they put the town hall in the water.
In addition, we hiked up to Michaeli Monastery, which offers a beautiful view of Bamberg and a wonderful rose garden. We also followed the footsteps of the Three Musketeers in Domplatz (Cathedral Square) and searched for the famous equestrian statue, which is worth seeing because of its truly three-dimensional and realistic representation, inside the cathedral.
But we didn't just enjoy the well-known tourist highlights, we also discovered an antiquarian bookstore where we took shelter from a short rain shower. We also had the opportunity to attend a jazz festival and spent our evenings in various bars, which unfortunately had to kick us out at 1:00 am due to the corona curfew.
All in all, Bamberg is definitely worth a visit!
