Peru and its ancient soul

Now sitting in a very pretty and completely overpriced hostel in Santiago, the capital of Chile, I am thinking again about Peru.

While I am still completely fascinated that cars stop when you want to cross the street, that the water is really warm when you turn on the hot water tap, that there is drinkable tap water again (at least theoretically), and that where it says WIFI, there is actually WIFI, there is still a little nostalgia.

Because Peru has something that sets it apart from other Latin American countries:

An ancient soul!

On the way to Lake Titicaca. It can't get any better in the nostalgic train.

Even though the nasty Spaniards disappeared long ago, the traces are still noticeable.

Peru's charm lies less in its nature, but more in its history and unique people. In conversations with Peruvians, the ancient Inca appears in the soul of every Peruvian.

Although modernity has arrived, all of this feels so unreal and chaotic, as if the people here were simply deprived of their spears overnight and replaced them with a cell phone selfie stick, as if to say: It's completely unnecessary, but you want to be modern, so buy it)

Although almost every Peruvian proudly claims to have Inca ancestors or indigenous ancestors, it is mainly their own people who discriminate against the indigenous population.

For example, indigenous people have less chances of getting a job or are rejected in certain clubs or bars because of their slightly darker skin color.

In the face of difficulties, and especially the terribly present and tumor-like-growing corruption, something strange becomes evident. Everything is somehow endured, no one seems to really complain. But... why??
