The North of Thailand: Chiang Mai + Short trip to Bangkok

प्रकाशित: 12.10.2016

Last Wednesday, Eileen and I made our way to Chiang Mai in the north. After 2 hours of flying, we arrived and took a TukTuk to a hostel in the center. Chiang Mai was super cute and a big street led all around the city. Since it's been a week already and a lot has happened in the meantime, let me briefly summarize what our two days there looked like. We treated ourselves to some Thai massages (they only cost 5 euros and I'm slowly starting to enjoy them), rented some mopeds and just rode around, and went on a temple tour (Chiang Mai is full of many smaller temples) AND on our last day, we rode scooters up the mountain - it was quite adventurous because it was occasionally quite curvy. At the top was Wat Doi Suthep (I believe haha) in any case, it was a temple at the very top of the mountain where you had to walk up some steps. -> see photos.

On the same evening, we took the night bus to Bangkok. Sounds worse than it is, we could sleep quite well there and there was water, snacks, and air conditioning :)

When we got off in Bangkok, we met Alex. He had already finished his Thailand trip and had to spend a day in Bangkok before his flight to Germany in the evening. So he joined us for the day and we toured Bangkok together.

I don't know if we were just tired from the ride and pretty clueless, but Bangkok didn't appeal to us right away. Actually, I like these dingy metropolises, but Bangkok was just confusing and it stank. The sky was gray, and the supposed highlight (the temple) was simply too expensive for us with 500 baht, that is 15 euros, entrance fee. But we made the best of it, took the Skytrain (about 10 degrees inside, thanks to air conditioning), took the ferry down the river, went to eat on Khao San Road (Bangkok's party mile), and then went to the best Thai massage so far. We also had a big plan for the next day: to drive out of Bangkok to a temple 55 kilometers away - but not just like that! See next blog post
