Day 11 Harmelen - Emmerich am Rhein

Our prayers from the previous day, when we trudged through the hot ("desert") sand, were answered...at 4:30 in the morning it rained and thundered. So we quickly got up, closed the windows and grabbed the towels from the clothesline and then went back to sleep to the calming sound of the rain. At breakfast time it was a pleasant 22 degrees. Suddenly there was a knock on the motorhome door and a little Dutch boy was standing there with his mom looking for a playmate. After a short warm-up phase, Finn and Quinn played with Lego and cars in the parking lot and didn't mind that everyone was babbling in different languages. We moms had a chat in English: Quinn and his parents have been traveling with the motorhome through Europe for 2 years and return to Holland whenever they feel like it. The parents educate the boy themselves (compulsory schooling in the Netherlands from the age of 4!).

At 10 o'clock we rode our bikes to Kasteel de Haar, the largest castle complex in the Netherlands. Here there was a restored castle to admire, with knight's armor and stately chambers.

For lunch we returned to the camper and then headed towards Germany. In Emmerich am Rhein there was a parking space near the promenade. The only downside of the place was that it was right next to a sewage pump that moved a lot of gray water every few hours. Well, after some time you get used to the smell of sewer water. Along the promenade we strolled to the city park and admired numerous huge transport ships on their way. Relaxed dinner in the motorhome with noodles and tomato sauce and then a game round on the highway next to the camper, and another day was over.
