From Thionville to Dijon, we decided against taking the highway and chose the more scenic route through the Regional Natural Park of Lorraine. Originally, we had considered stopping there for a walk. However, we abandoned this plan due to the constant rain and snowfall (in May!). Instead, we made our first stop in Toul.
From afar, we already saw the Cathedral of St. Étienne towering over the old town, where we walked under our umbrella feeling cold.
Our next stop was the small town of Langres, which still has the same number of inhabitants today as it did at the end of the 18th century. As we walked through the streets of the old town, we felt transported back in time. In sunny weather, the city center would have been very beautiful, but instead, it was rather gray and deserted.
A famous native of the city is Denis Diderot, who also has a monument dedicated to him on the square named after him.
There was also a huge cathedral here, dedicated to the martyr Mamas of Cappadocia (St. Mammès).
