Once through the Sunshine State

Yesterday morning we set off early.

We took an Uber from the hotel to our car rental agency.

When the gentleman at the counter saw our luggage, he offered us a larger car than we had booked for free. Who would say no to that? As the friendly staff member prepared our Ford Fusion, we took the opportunity to go shopping next door at the supermarket. It quickly became apparent that we were in the district called Little Moscow. Back at the car rental agency, loaded with water and snacks, our travel companion was fully fueled and ready.

So we started our journey joyfully.

The strange feeling that one has when one hasn't driven for a long time quickly disappeared.

We quickly realized why Americans prefer vehicles with automatic transmission and cruise control. Long straight roads, rarely a change in speed. And that, even though we consciously decided not to drive on the major interstates. Our playlist is playing and we're chatting and singing our hearts out.

Time flies by quickly.

However, we had to realize something. Always keep an eye out for the next gas station. Whether for refueling or as a restroom option.

Skilled U-turns and sprints for bathroom breaks also surprised a couple of local hunters on our trip.

Challenge: Refueling in the USA.

Fortunately, there are also friendly people here who are happy and patient to explain to tourists that you first have to go into the gas station. State the amount you want to refuel and THEN you can start. Not like with us, first at the pump and then inside. That also needs to be said.

So we covered 770 km in 9 hours of driving, discovered peculiar signs warning of bears, and arrived tired in Tallahassee.

We didn't particularly like this city, so we only stayed for one night.
