Day 11 - At the end of the world

For the first time, it is foggy when we wake up and there is nothing to entice us outside. Nevertheless, we get ready, which means showering and having breakfast (muesli, yogurt, toast, crispbread, cheese, fruits, orange juice, & tea). By the time we are ready to go, the sun is already breaking through the fog - luckily, we are ready. So off we go.

First item on the agenda: 'Treaty House' (house of the first treaty between the Maori and the British government). The museum is very informative and the Maori show is impressive. The only thing that didn't appeal to us was the guided tour, as our guide spoke without any pauses or breaks. Something like this: 'ThetreatyhouseisthemostoutstandingandhistoricalimportantbuildingforNewZealandasanation.' And that for 50 minutes. Nevertheless, the museum as a whole is great and allows us to immerse ourselves in the history of NZL.

At 12:30, after our first refueling stop, we continue our 230 km journey to Cape Reigna. On the approximately 3-hour journey, we make a stop at Ninety Mile Beach and have a snack.

After an impressive drive with countless curves, ups and downs - because they don't seem to have straight roads here - we reach the northern tip of New Zealand. The view of the lighthouse and the coast is simply breathtaking - watch out for the pics! By the way, at Cape Reigna, the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean meet.

Finally, a steep gravel road leads us down to sea level, where we will spend the night in the campsite. But before we prepare our dinner, we take a dip in the freezing cold sea ;-) Since the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean meet here, they probably turned off the heating - nobody wants to pay the bill ;-)

Tomorrow, yes exactly, we're heading back south. Because there's no way up anymore. So it's another 1,000 curves and hills back...
