Got up early and had a good breakfast.
Got in the car and drove to Limenaria, parked the car and walked to the agreed meeting point where we had to wait for a while.
Finally, the expected Chevrolet Captiva arrived and took us on a nice tour (for my 50th birthday) for the day.
First, we drove from Limenaria to Kastro, which we visited again (we had been here 2 years ago). Afterwards, we visited the small church of Kastro and got some explanations about it. While enjoying a Frappe, we also got to know Kostas, who kept us busy with tricky puzzles and also told us a lot of interesting things about Kastro and why he speaks German so well. We had a lot of fun here and our driver Yannis almost had to persuade us to continue :-)
From Kastro, we took a slightly adventurous path that is deliberately mostly used by 4x4 vehicles. After a while, we came across a sign saying 'Waterfall', parked there and then walked to the stream and followed it against the current until we reached the place that gave the word 'Waterfall' its name. This is a beautiful spot in Thassos that I had not seen before. Thank you for this.
After sweating and walking back uphill to the car, we drove up higher and higher for a long time. We stopped at a spring on the way, refreshed ourselves, and continued upwards. Yannis stopped in a curve and asked us to follow him. The breathtaking view that opened up to us was simply fantastic. We were overshadowed by the still majestic-looking summit of Ipsarion, and next to us there was a magnificent view down to the sea.
After enjoying this view, we walked back to the car and continued the rest of the way on foot. So we got out of the vehicle and hiked up to the summit. Up there, we enjoyed a magnificent panoramic view of the island, crossed over to the mainland, admired the islands Thassopoula and Skiathos, as well as the 'holy' mountain Athos, and filmed and photographed everything. From up here, we could also see the tiny summit that we had forced ourselves to climb the day before in Limenas. It was definitely an unforgettable experience up there.
Now we started our way back down, while we had a lively conversation with Yannis about this and that.
We skipped the waterfall in Maries and instead stopped at a tavern whose owner is good friends with Yannis. Here we had a good Greek salad, some Tzatziki, and something cold to drink.
After this nice stop, we drove back to the starting point in Limenaria and said goodbye to Yannis.
From there, we drove back to Aliki to our accommodation.
Here we let the evening come to an end with good food and some Retsina wine.
