A day in Bang Niang

Whakaputaina: 28.02.2018

Bang Niang Beach

Since we didn't manage to make it to Bang Niang Beach during our last visit here, as we were stopped by a river, we decided to check it out this time. So we took a taxi there. However, the weather was quite unpleasant. It wasn't raining yet, but it looked like it was going to. The access to the beach was unfortunately located in a spot where there was only one direction to go. To our right, the passage to the actual Bang Niang Beach, which extends over several kilometers, was blocked by a hotel wall. So we only had a relatively small beach area, which wasn't particularly nice either. A new large hotel complex was being built there, so there wasn't much peace and quiet. We walked to the river, this time standing on the other side of the beach, and settled here for a while. We also encountered a few dogs here, one of which looked very similar to mine at home.

Bang Niang Town

After a while, we headed to the town. Just in time, because it started pouring rain while we were on our way. We took shelter in a restaurant, where we had a bite to eat and waited for the rain to stop. Fortunately, it rarely rains all day in Thailand (although the amount of rain during these two weeks was really excessive), so it soon stopped and we could make our way through the town towards the main road.

Police Boat

We then took a look at the police boat, which was washed inland during the 2004 tsunami. It's unbelievable how far the water came back then. It was quite a distance from the beach to the road...

Bang Niang Market

After that, we visited the Bang Niang Market, which is right across the street. We had already been there during our last visit and didn't want to miss it this time either. So we strolled through the market, had a beer (I had another coconut!) at a small bar, and despite the fact that we were already full, we absolutely had to eat something! You just can't resist on the market ;)

Then Luke indulged in a Thai 'specialty'. But since he had already tried insects last time, the reluctance wasn't as big anymore. For my part, I didn't want to have it again! :D

Nice end

Later in the evening, we walked back to the beach and watched the sunset.
