Freedom Camping at the Three Sisters
Today we are heading to New Plymouth, a larger city at the foot of Mount Taranaki. Here we visit a small free zoo in the middle of the Pukekura Park. Afterwards, we want to get an impression of the well-maintained park, where we coincidentally discover a cricket game. Since this is New Zealand's summer sport (rugby is the winter sport), we spend some time in the stands. A local seems to notice that we are not quite following the game, so he sits down next to us and tells us some things about cricket, but also about sports in general in New Zealand. Did you know that a cricket game can often last for five days, six hours each day? Therefore, we leave after two hours in the blazing sun. After spending the rest of the afternoon by the water in the sun, we drive back to the park in the evening for the Festival of Lights, a seven-week light festival with daily changing events. Two music acts are organized for this evening, which are very nice to listen to. We enjoy the fully lit park and waterfall with a pack of roasted almonds in hand.
