After the last big city, we continued north to a small town with a very famous beach: Rainbow Beach. It got its name because the sand contains 74 different colors. Of course, we immediately went in search of them and found them. Dominik dug out a few and scratched them out of the sandstone. It was really great to see how many different sand colors we could find.
Then we took the car ferry to Fraser Island. Only 10 minutes and we were on the largest sand island in the world. There are no paved roads, so you can only explore the island on your own with a four-wheel drive and several restrictions. We had our car, our Pauli, and met all the requirements, but still, we felt it would be too unsafe to drive alone through the wilderness. So we booked a tour where we knew everything would be fine.
Thankfully, we made that decision because once we arrived, we understood what it meant to drive only on sand. We saw several cars that got stuck or even had a broken axle or something equally bad. Our Pauli was safe, and we were able to experience the island stress-free.
The coolest thing that day was the flight over Fraser Island! We took off and landed directly from 75 Mile Beach - it was simply amazing. :)
