Arriving in Singapore, I spent some time in the air-conditioned airport building until I passed immigration and got my luggage. Then I was hit by the heat. With a perceived temperature of 40 degrees Celsius and extremely high humidity, I took the crowded subway to the hostel.
If it weren't for 90 percent of the people on the street looking Asian, I wouldn't feel like I'm in Asia. Everything is very Western, advanced, and extremely clean. On my first subway ride, I unknowingly broke the most important rule by eating cookies. Later I found out that I risked a $500 fine for that.
In the hostel, I met some nice girls in my room. Without really resting, we went out. With Kim, a 29-year-old Dutch woman who, like me, took a break between two jobs, and a Canadian who also arrived directly from Canada in the morning.
We chose a relatively cheap Chinese restaurant in Little India. Luckily, all three of us prefer vegetarian (including fish) and were in the mood to share, so we combined a portion of fried mushrooms, shrimp dumplings, and noodles from the extensive menu. It was quite tasty for the first evening :)
Thanks to Ladies Night every Wednesday, we had free entry to Marina Bay Sands including a free drink, and we could enjoy the evening with breathtaking views. By now, I had truly arrived on this journey...!
