Boat tour and stargazing in La Palma

MIVOAKA: 20.05.2022

Unfortunately, we are a bit behind with our blog. But now we finally took the time for the next entry. After our stay in La Gomera, we went back to La Palma. There, we went on a whale watching boat tour and were able to see some dolphins. At the end of the tour, we drove south to the volcano. From the sea, you can see the full extent of the volcanic eruption from a different perspective.

In our accommodation in Tazacorte, a friendly lizard would occasionally crawl out from under the washing machine and keep us company. We fed it flies and named it Jürgen. Later we found out that it is actually a female :)

Another highlight was the trip to Roque de Las Muchachos, the highest mountain in La Palma (2,426 m). There is an international observatory with many different telescopes. The conditions for stargazing are particularly good here, and there is even a law to minimize light pollution. We thought we could do what the professionals do, so we waited just below the summit for the sunset. We were rewarded with a beautiful starry sky, which we naturally wanted to capture in photos. We don't know anything about astrophotography, but after experimenting a bit with the night mode on our phone, we managed to take several decent photos of the night sky.

Oh, and Karo once again played the "pack mule" at the airport. A wheelchair can sometimes be very practical :)
