Auckland Part ll

MIVOAKA: 09.03.2017

We're back in Auckland! And we immediately found a wonderful hostel with a great kitchen and air conditioning! The next day, we wanted to start the day with a delicious breakfast. We had chicken/avocado sandwiches and pancake towers with berry compote. After the tower turned out to be more like a small hill of pancakes, we couldn't resist preparing our own pancake tower the next day (see photos). So we headed to the grocery store, which offered us everything our hearts desire: a variety of products in the produce section, a whole wall of nuts and muesli/oatmeal ingredients to mix and match, to name just a small part. In addition, there is a wide variety of smoothies that provide us with vitamins. You can also find funny labels under the pictures. Next, we took a city tour of Mount Eden, with a magnificent view of Auckland all the way to the harbor. In the evening, we went to an entertainment complex, where we first played bowling. However, for the price, we would have preferred to throw more baskets in the arcade while playing basketball, because we were so excited that everyone handed us winning coupons, and in the end, we won the grand prize of 3 small packs of gummy bears! On the following day, we visited the museum, where we learned about the history and Maori culture, including a performance. The Maori culture performance impressed us a lot. We listened to the Maori language, songs, and watched Maori games. We were also shown the famous Haka war dance and song of the Maori, which is used to intimidate enemies. In addition, we were able to experience an earthquake and learn how to deal with it in the museum. In the hostel, while cooking, we had an interesting conversation with an Indian who was born in Australia, had worked in America/Canada before, and now wants to try his luck in New Zealand. We had a lively discussion about German politics and the refugee situation, which apparently truly goes around the world as global politics and has information needs at the other end of the world, and we were asked for information with great interest. Before continuing our journey, we enjoyed our last evening in Auckland at the cinema watching the movie 'The Great Wall'.
