29/10/2019 - Roy → Seattle / USA → Vancouver / Canada (315 Kilometers)

MIVOAKA: 13.11.2019

In the morning we were woken up by the rising sun and had a view of snow-capped Mount Rainier right from the bed. At 4,392 meters, it is the highest peak in the US state of Washington. Only 2 degrees Celsius awaited us outside the door today. We continued our tour in the warm car and after a few kilometers we arrived in the city of Seattle. Surrounded by water, mountains and evergreen forests, the city has a fantastic location, but is also known as a very rainy city. However, today was glorious sunshine and a brilliant blue sky. We had planned the whole day for the city, but actually didn't need that long for the few interesting sights. Pike Place Market is definitely one of them. It is a farmer's market that opened in August 1907. A massive multi-storey market overlooking the Elliott Bay waterfront. Fresh fish, fruit and vegetables, sausages, flowers, clothing, souvenirs and old collectibles are sold. To entertain the tourists, the sellers keep throwing fish at each other over the counter and if you get hungry, you will find various restaurants and snack bars. A very interesting place. Not far away is the world's first Starbucks. We continued to Kerry Park. A small park with probably the best view over the city. From here we enjoyed the view of Seattle including the Space Needle and Mount Rainier in the background. Our last port of call was the Seattle Center, which was built for the 1962 World's Fair. We strolled a little over the area, which is still well used today, and were now directly in front of the Space Needle, a lookout and restaurant tower. We didn't drive up because we had already had a wonderful view of the city.

In the late afternoon we left the city and the country. We drove across the border to Vancouver in Canada.
