MIVOAKA: 13.12.2018
We started from Wanaka around 10:30 am in sunny weather. On the way, we stopped at some viewpoints and in Arrowtown, which is an old gold mining town. A long table with tables was set up on the street because there was a larger event scheduled in the afternoon, so preparations were already underway. We drove for about half an hour to Queenstown, where our first stop was, of course, the Information center. There, we booked our cruise in Milford Sound and got a city map before driving to our accommodation. In the afternoon, we explored the city and had a burger at the restaurant in our accommodation, with a view of Queenstown in the sunshine. Unfortunately, breakfast is only served until 9 am, so the next morning started a bit earlier. We made a phone call home before our hike was supposed to start. Normally, a gondola goes up to the Skyline Queenstown, but we decided to walk the 430 meters of elevation gain within an hour. We planned to take the gondola on the way down, but it would cost 25 dollars, and we didn't want to pay for that, so we took the walking trail back instead. Once we reached the bottom, we walked further into the city and bought some treats at the famous Freyberg Bakery, which we enjoyed by the lake before strolling through a market and visiting the Queens Garden. In the evening, we took another walk through the city and did some packing in our car because our next destination is Te Anau for two nights.
