Today we said goodbye to our Hobbit houses, the cute kittens, and Elizabeth, a beloved American who is also on a big journey. We drove through a lot of desolate landscapes, all orange, with smaller whirlwinds and Indian stands along the roadside, selling their homemade items like dream catchers, jewelry, etc. We made a stop at a Kentucky Fried Chicken - where 6 chickens had to give their lives for one serving and it was dripping with grease. That wasn't really our thing. Soon after, we reached the entrance to the Grand Canyon National Park and it became very green. The beginning of the Grand Canyon was already very spectacular - and it only got better. On the way, there were many viewpoints where we stopped. There were rangers who always had something interesting to say. Zoë noticed that there is a very balanced wildlife here with many deer and mountain lions! That made her get back in the car very quickly. Shortly afterwards, we actually saw a huge deer next to the road that was not at all shy - in contrast to Zoë, who was scanning the woods for mountain lions :-) Not because she wanted to see them - but because she didn't want to encounter them. We booked our hotel in the middle of the National Park. It is a beautiful, old, dark wooden building with poor internet (sorry). At this point, we would like to congratulate Mäxi on his birthday, because we simply can't reach you otherwise (sorry, sorry) ;-) - due to the poor connection to the outside world. In the afternoon, I wanted to take a walk along the rim and Zoë wanted to stay in the room. But then she felt guilty and wanted to follow me - but unfortunately, she went in the opposite direction. So she walked a good 4.5 km at a brisk pace and arrived at the hotel rather exhausted. There was only one thing to do: margarita with and without, dinner, refreshing shower, and blissfully falling into the soft bed. That's also nice once in a while :-)
