we are on the road
A tip from a dear acquaintance: why not visit the Tuniberg near Freiburg? It's really worth it. It's only 312.4 m 'high' - or rather only 190 m above sea level - a limestone elevation near Freiburg. And full of vineyards. According to a winemaker, the loess soil is particularly suitable for Pinot Noir grape varieties. We will test that when we open the bottle for asparagus.
A little refreshment before we start. Because it looked so tempting, I couldn't resist a Black Forest cake. Phew! Really delicious and a lot of cake.
Hiking shoes are not necessary here. Sneakers are sufficient on the farm roads. The destination after a few hundred meters is a wooden tower - we are standing in front of the Opfingen lookout tower. Great panoramic view of the vineyard landscape - unfortunately, the many Black Forest hills and mountains were not clearly visible due to the haze. But amazingly quiet - only the various birds could be heard. The builders of the tower have come up with and built an entrance and an exit. That will certainly be useful in the event of a large number of visitors.
Then down the path to the NABU- Freiburg wild bee educational garden. A really beautifully designed garden for the many hundreds of species of wild bees. Some explanations are given by a friendly lady along the way. Then back up the hill - it's not as strenuous as it sounds. By the way, some hiking tours are signposted by the Black Forest Association.
We already notice a fenced area a few steps further. Here a water station has been created to supply some municipalities. It looks very old, but it is actually from 1991.
And then we are back at the Walter family. Now we can buy delicious things in the farm shop and the day at the Tuniberg is already over for us.
It was such a worthwhile excursion and a few days in Freiburg and some other places would certainly be worth it. So for a short while, the soul found joy - but it was so beautiful that it will last for a few days.
See you soon
