Tropical depression Julia has decided not to stay in the Charleston area, but has moved on to the Atlantic.
Just yesterday, we had developed a plan B in case of several days of rain in the Charleston region. We would have driven directly westward from the coast and planned to make Nashville, Tennessee our next stop.
But, as I said, Julia has changed her mind and we can continue our tour as planned.
4 hours of driving brought us first across the border to South Carolina. We made a short coffee stop in Myrtle Beach, where there were major floods just 2 weeks ago, and then arrived in our cozy inn in Historic Downtown Charleston around 6pm.
We have already taken an evening walk under the full moon, and I already know that I like Charleston. I felt comfortable from the beginning. Lots of beautiful southern houses, plenty of restaurants, pubs, and music everywhere. The 3 days here will fly by.
By coincidence, we ended up at the Francis Marion Hotel's Swamp Fox restaurant and had a delicious meal there accompanied by piano music. My new favorite dish: Crab Cakes. They are made from crab meat and various other ingredients... a kind of upscale fish cake and super delicious!
