And even more rain

Ebimisami: 26.02.2022

The whole past week had bad weather, it rained for so long and so hard that you couldn't leave the cabin. Even the provision with the basics was difficult and could only be maintained because there were occasional short breaks in the rain, which I used to go out to eat, buy water, and get a rain cape. Often it seemed like the rain was letting up and I was preparing to leave the cabin, but as soon as I stepped out the door, it started again.

It was a very rudimentary life, reading, internet, sleeping. If it wasn't raining too much, I lay in my hammock, but sometimes it stormed so much that the wind blew fine drops under my awning onto the porch, so I had to retreat into the interior of the cabin.

At first, I coped well with it, but after 3 days in a row, even I started to feel claustrophobic and longed for movement and other options.

But larger excursions were out of the question, even when the breaks in the rain gradually became longer, as there was always the risk of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.

However, my desire for adventure had become so strong that despite all the uncertainty, I was drawn outside, which is why I got on the scooter at the slightest improvement in the weather and drove around a little in the immediate vicinity to see and experience something different.

I visited the small harbor of Sritanu, where a few brightly colored fishing boats were moored. It seemed to me that the entire harbor basin consisted of dead corals. The ground was covered with them. I found a beautiful, completely intact, large shell that I took with me to maybe take pictures of it in a nicer environment later. However, it is too big and heavy to take it to Germany.

On another occasion, I drove west, but not far and very slowly. I kept my eyes open in the hope of seeing something inspiring.

As I passed the brackish water river, I just saw a large monitor lizard drifting by. I immediately stopped, but the animal also noticed me and immediately submerged.

I looked at the new building complex that Mr. Nice recently put into operation on the brackish water lake. A kind of apartment building, new and modern, completely made of concrete and glass. Not my style, I definitely didn't want to live there, right on the street, although all the apartments are oriented towards the lake. But this brackish water doesn't seem inviting to me either - not to mention the mosquitoes.

I continued until the road climbed a small peninsula, where I dared to turn left towards the sea. The little road seemed private to me and led to an expensive resort. Nevertheless, I continued and parked the scooter after barely 100 meters and walked the rest through a well-kept resort to the beach. I passed a large frangipani tree in full bloom. The ground under it was covered with fallen white and yellow flowers, a real carpet of flowers.

When I reached the bottom, I had a view of the beach to the left, about 150-200 meters long, where maybe 4-5 bathers had gathered today. In good weather, it would certainly be a beautiful beach with gentle waves, but today there were actually waves rolling onto the beach.

I oriented myself to the right, where a well-maintained palm-lined path along the cliffs led to a restaurant, or so I assumed. On one of the rocks, there was a life-size statue of a mermaid overlooking the beach. In the adjoining restaurant, more statues like this were waiting for me. When I entered, I wasn't sure if it was allowed, I was neither a resort resident nor did I intend to eat there. But I was so fascinated by the place that I finally dared to do it.
