Yesterday we both fell in love! Instead of sightseeing, we took the opportunity to experience the São Paulo way of life and came back enthusiastic in the evening.
Our hostel is located in the trendy neighborhood of Vila Madalena, so it was not very far to the flea market at Benedito Calixto. There was both old junk and antiques as well as local crafts and Brazilian street food. Too bad furniture is so hard to take home 😄. So we focused on clothes, jewelry, and local delicacies.
In the afternoon, we headed to Parque Ibirapuera. I've never been to Central Park in New York, but that's exactly how I imagine it: huge, green, and people everywhere spending their Saturdays outdoors with family and friends. Right next door is the Museu de Arte Contemporânea, from whose café you have a magnificent view of the 360-degree skyline of this megacity!
Of course, we only saw a fraction of São Paulo. And here, too, you can find a lot of the typical Latin American cityscape with run-down and pragmatically repaired houses, dirty streets, traffic chaos, and countless homeless people. But there is also a lot to discover because many have lovingly restored their homes and shops, so there are many colorful corners that radiate incredible life joy. Magnificent!
