The scooter has been stolen. At first, we couldn't believe it. We searched the area around the parking lot as if the scooter could be hiding in the bushes. Thoughts like 'No, this can't be happening. It will all just disappear.' or 'Did we even park here or did we drive away again last night and can't remember?' come up. Absurd thoughts. Slowly, the fact that our scooter was stolen overnight sinks into our brains.
We had a conversation with the landlord of the bungalow complex, who told us that our scooter is the fourth one stolen here at night. The agitated scooter rental owner, accompanied by his energetic girlfriend, showed up. With her funny and loud personality, the girlfriend managed to momentarily dispel the general agitation.
At the police station, the policeman wrote a report in Thai script, which I signed. The cameras on the street near our bungalow are now being checked for people who might be riding a scooter that could be ours. Meanwhile, locals in various WhatsApp groups on the island are sharing photos of the scooter, hoping that someone will recognize it. And we also look at every scooter that passes by, checking if there's a burn hole in the seat.
What an eventful day it has been.
