17.-19.12.18 - Road Trip with 4 French girls

Ebimisami: 23.12.2018

When I returned to the hostel on Saturday evening, the 15th, I was asked by a few French girls if I would like to accompany them on a road trip. I couldn't refuse such an offer, so we started on Monday. The first stop was Wave Rock, a rock hollowed out by the wind to resemble a wave, about 300km southeast of Perth. We left at 10 in the morning. First to the car rental and then to the hostel to load everything in. Once that was done, we went to the nearest supermarket, Aldi, to buy groceries for the next few days. The subsequent trunk Tetris was probably the most difficult challenge I've ever had, but finally, we were able to start.

After about a 4-hour drive, we reached the Wildlife Park near Wave Rock, two hours before sunset. It's not very spectacular, but from the top of the rock, we had a magnificent panoramic view.

After a short walk around the area, we then went to a small campsite nearby, where we struggled to set up our tents and secure them with everything we had. Unfortunately, it was extremely windy and the tent pegs wouldn't hold in the ground.

After a quick dinner, we spent the evening playing spin the bottle in the tent.

The next morning, we continued towards Margaret River in the south of Perth at 8 o'clock. A 7-hour drive in the Australian heat. Around noon, we found a beautiful place to eat at Black Diamond Lake, a lake with turquoise blue water. For the first time, I could even set up my hammock, which has been sitting in my backpack since Thailand due to a lack of trees.

After lunch, we took a swim and about 2 hours later, we continued to Margaret River.

We stayed at a campsite that was also a refuge for wild animals, right next to dozens of kangaroos.

After a much more restful night than before and a long-awaited shower, we explored Margaret River in the morning.

We first went to the beach, which is a true paradise for surfers...

...but sharks feel quite comfortable here as well.

Afterwards, we searched for a winery as the French girls wanted to do a tasting. But first, we stumbled upon a brewery where I immediately got a job offer for February after a small tasting and a conversation with the director, who happened to be there. With a good feeling and an even better taste in my mouth, we continued to a winery to taste the Australian wine.

After 13 samples, it was time for lunch to regain our driving ability.

Once that was done, we went back to Perth as quickly as possible, where we returned the car just 5 minutes before closing time.
