16/10 - Sea Turtles in Akumal

To take full advantage of and enjoy the last few hours with Kathi, we took an early morning Colectivo from Tulum to Akumal. We actually just wanted to swim with sea turtles, we didn't expect such a dream beach - so the joy and excitement was even greater when we arrived. And as a reward for being two well-organized German girls who are always about three hours ahead of the average Mexican and tourist, we (at 9:30 in the morning) had the pleasure of a beach in Akumal that was almost deserted :-)

The trip to Akumal was worth it just because of the beach, buuut... we came for the turtles. So: put on snorkeling equipment and off into the turquoise blue crystal clear sea. The underwater world that awaited us there was even more beautiful than the beach: coral reefs, the most colorful fish and not to forget sea turtles. Unfortunately, my underwater photography skills totally failed on that day, so there is only a mediocre picture of a turtle to show. Nevertheless: for me, it was the most beautiful underwater world I have seen while snorkeling in Mexico so far.

After our extensive snorkeling tour, we let our souls dangle for another hour before we unfortunately had to make our way back to Tulum because I had to arrive in Mérida on time.

Conclusion: My absolute favorite beach in Mexico!
