Salar de Uyuni - the somewhat different shipwreck

Ebimisami: 15.11.2017

Before we made the Salar unsafe, we visited the railway cemetery in Uyuni. There old steam locomotives rust away. This was not really informative, but it was a cool photo location 😊.

Then it was time, we drove to the Salar. This white sea is located at an altitude of about 3,500 meters, thanks to good altitude adjustment, no problem, we could even have a beer after work without any problems. The first stop was a salt hotel. The name was program, the entire inventory was made of salt, but very touristy and therefore not really appealing. On the other hand, we really liked the Dakar monument.

Our second photo location of the day. Then we started cruising at 80 kilometers per hour to Isla Incahuasi and had a little race with "Mani". Maggi put up a brave fight 😊. As expected, the island was overrun with day tour tourists - nothing for us again. On the map, we discovered a lonely island, the ideal spot for the sunset.

Unfortunately, we didn't consider that the salt layer at the edges of the island is very thin and porous. This was Maggi's downfall. Before Kai could react, Maggi was stuck in the mud. Uli wanted to provide immediate first aid, which in turn caused the MAN to sink. Now Silke had to calm down first and for the others: grab the shovel and get to work. First we freed the MAN and with the help of sand tracks and deflating the tires he reached solid ground. The situation was a bit more dramatic for Maggi. He was partially stuck half a meter in this clay/mud layer. Thanks to Uli's winch and the recovery strap, we were able to rescue Maggi from his misery after about 2 hours.

We did not spend the sunset on the island, but at a proper distance. It was beautiful and we learned a lesson 😊.
