Today, when we wake up, the sun is shining, so we excitedly pack up and leave the (very open) campsite at Loch Ness towards Urquhart Castle. Good thing... as we set off, at least 20 Italian motorhomes are just arriving, taking over half of the campsite.
No longer our problem... but we have another one... the car park at Urquhart Castle is bursting at the seams, there's not even space for our 'small car'. No chance of stopping... so we decide on the spot to give it a miss (it's just another pile of stones) and make our way to the Loch Ness Exhibition Centre. At least there are still parking spaces there. It seems like every tourist in Scotland is here... brilliant! The 'exhibition' turns out to be a series of several films in 80s quality, at tourist prices... hooray... whether Nessie exists or not, we could have saved ourselves the trouble.
We quickly escape and find a very pretty little campsite 15 miles away from Drumnadrochit in Cannich, where we can enjoy some peace and quiet. (Kids at the playground, parents having cappuccino at the campsite cafe). In the evening, fish & chips and burgers at the nearby pub. Drinks as is usual in pubs, to be ordered at the bar.
For the first time, it proves to be a disadvantage to have come by plane... a parasol, camping table and chairs would be great on this sunny day!
