Today we were woken up early by the pattering rain...the first night in the motorhome was so-so. But there are Scottish morning rolls for breakfast and instant coffee... delicious!
Our host starts bringing the horses to the paddock at 07:00...so we don't want to disturb and leave his estate in the north towards Stonehaven.
Short stop in Arbroath for shopping at Tesco (our motorhome needs 4 car parking spaces), then after a total of 3 hours of driving we look for a parking space in Stonehaven. Full parking lots prove to be a problem, as reversing or driving around tight corners is almost impossible.
But we find a way and embark on the approximately one-hour hike to Dunnotar Castle. It leads along steep cliffs over impressive terrain. The castle itself is beautifully laid out and dates back to the 16th century. Unfortunately, only ruins remain today. However, it is well developed for tourists... and so you hear more German words than English words along the way.
Afterwards, we go over a longer single track road for the first time (sweating...) into the Cairngorms National Park. Near Ballater, we find a parking space in a park niche in a small forest... let's see if the second night brings more sleep...
