And just like that, the month is over... It was really fun here, even though some days were really long (10-12 hours), it was worth it! The island is beautiful and my team was just amazing! Although the work was often exhausting, time flew by because of the fun we had. I will miss it.
Our last day of work was on Monday, and for my farewell, my dear Sonia gave me a small gift for my birthday, which is on Saturday 😊 On Tuesday, we had a tour booked, where we got to see some animals up close and heard interesting stories. Among other things, I got to hold a snake around my neck 🐍, have a beautiful bird sitting on my shoulder 🦜, but the highlight was definitely cuddling a koala 🐨. Yes, they are as fluffy as they look 😉 and I didn't want to let go of it. In the evening, at sunset, we went to a place where kangaroos have found their place to live on the island, between large rocks and small caves by the water. Some were even so trusting that you could feed them from your hand. Even after almost 5 months, I still can't get enough of them 😍😁
Yesterday, we went for a hike and enjoyed a beautiful view at the destination. Koalas were also found along the way 😊 In the evening, we went to watch toad racing, yes, you read that right 😂 Every Wednesday, you can place bets on toad racing here. Yesterday, the highest bet was actually 120 dollars on a toad! It was quite funny to watch, but I didn't feel like placing a bet 😁
Today, we packed everything together and spent the day relaxing by the pool, because tomorrow we leave the island. But I don't think this will be the last time I've been here 😉 On Saturday, we will return to Airlie Beach, because we have booked a tour to the Whitsunday Island, which I have been looking forward to since arriving in Australia! When you see the pictures that will follow, you will understand why 😊 It will be a small consolation for me to spend the day in such a beautiful place because I have never been so far away from my family and friends on my birthday... but it's only about 5 weeks until I'm home again 😍. In addition, on Sunday, there is a huge surprise that will overshadow all worries! But I won't reveal it until the time comes 😉
Our car is already listed for sale on several websites. Let's hope for some good offers. 🙌🏼
