Blue sky on the horizon

Hello everyone,

my first day in Twizel is coming to an end. After waking up early this morning and having a delicious breakfast, my first 'working day' began. Penny, one of the staff here, showed me where everything is located and then I had to vacuum the kitchen next to my room, as well as the living room. After that, I went to one of the rooms that are rented out here and I vacuumed there as well. I went to a small hut to get the bed sheets and towels and vacuumed there afterwards. And then came my big task, cleaning the kitchen as well as the toilets and showers. After about two hours, everything was done and I could start my exploration tour.

First, I drove to the tourist information center, which is located right in the village center with all the shops. There, I got some advice on what I can do in the area. Since rain was forecasted and it was quite cloudy, I decided to stay in Twizel and walk the recommended circuit around Twizel. So I drove back to the campsite, parked my car, and off I went. First along the Twizel River and then through a small forest where I could occasionally get a nice view of the mountains. The next part of the route led me along the main road, as the hiking trail was closed due to tree felling work. The last part of the route ran along the highway, which was not very busy. I was amazed when a huge herd of cows passed by me, driven by trucks, quads, and motorcycles, right along the highway. We were only separated by the road and some cars still drove past us at the allowed 100 km/h, despite the not quite safe situation. After walking for nearly 3 hours and covering 10 kilometers, it was only 3pm, which gave me the opportunity to experience more.

So I quickly got into my car and drove to Lake Ruataniwha, which is only 4km away. Once I arrived there, I was able to take a few photos before the announced rain finally started. But that was okay, I drove along the lake to a hydroelectric power station and took a quick look before heading back to the village center along the canal that supplies water to this power station. There, I quickly went shopping and then cooked myself a delicious ready-made curry with potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, and rice. That will keep me full for the next couple of days.

That's it for my day. Let's see, depending on the weather tomorrow, I will either go to one of the lakes or to the national park. I'm excited.

See you tomorrow,

yours Jessi
