Day 38: Trip from Napier to Wellington

Ebimisami: 04.02.2023

In the morning, we walk to the Napier Museum and visit the exhibition on the 1931 Napier Earthquake. There is also an exhibition on the Māori in Napier. We explore the downtown area of Napier and discover many beautiful parks with flower beds.

Then we walk to the Napier Centennial Garden Waterfall, which is unfortunately not visible anymore as the artificial waterfall is currently not filled with water.

And then Dennis receives a message from our next accommodation in Wellington. Unfortunately, they don't have a room available due to a booking error. We already had a bad feeling about the accommodation because it was cheap, had great photos, but no reviews, and reacted strangely to our questions... So now we have to improvise and after two phone calls with booking.com, we get a replacement accommodation and booking.com covers the additional costs (166€). This vacation, we have contacted the Booking.com customer service for the third time and have had consistently positive experiences.

We also visit the Bluff Hill Lookout in Napier and then drive to Wellington. The drive takes about 4 hours. We have already noticed that New Zealanders drive their cars fast and recklessly. Even though we drive at the recommended speed, we are overtaken several times (even in risky places). We have already wondered if this driving style leads to accidents, and sadly, today we pass by a motorcycle accident. Thankfully, we arrive safely in Wellington in the evening. We then go out for pizza and take a walk in downtown Wellington.
