Our journey to Miramichi takes us along the sea. We pass through small fishing villages with fancy cottages and some quirks.
In the best weather, we stroll along the Bouctouche Dunes Boardwalk. A 12 km long sand dune separates the marshland from the sea. Unfortunately, most of the water birds living there have fled south, only the herons and the Canada geese can still be observed.
Our picnic is planned at Kouchibouguac National Park. Unfortunately, swarms of mosquitoes that immediately attack us only allow for a short break. Different at Kelly's Beach: here the wind wards off the mosquitoes and we can walk to the beautiful sandy beach on a small island via a boardwalk. In the summer, this must be a paradise.
We are staying at the Miramichi River Inn tonight. A fancy small hotel right on the river, which is known for its abundance of salmon. Of course, we will have fresh salmon for dinner.
