To big water, or at least almost.

The planning of my onward journey took me some time today, as I have plenty of options here in Exeter for my next destination. But I will only reveal that tomorrow.

Since today was an unusually hot and windless day, at least for British standards, I didn't plan on doing anything too big. I had already explored everything worth seeing in the vicinity, so I decided to visit the harbor quarter of Exeter, which is connected to the bay at Exmouth via an additional canal. There is also the River Exe, but it is blocked by several weirs.

Shortly after setting off, while passing through the beautiful park, I managed to do something that I couldn't accomplish in Dartmoor. Namely, take a photo of a wild rabbit :-D

The harbor quarter was actually more than an hour's walk away from my accommodation, and I have to admit that I didn't particularly like the part between the city center and the harbor quarter. I wasn't sure if it was worth going to the harbor, but when I arrived, I was pleasantly surprised again. There is a whole collection of pubs, restaurants, and small crafts businesses around the river and canal. The whole area immediately gives a much better impression. I walked around the whole quarter, stopping here and there, but then I had to go back because I still had to pack.

One thing you have to concede to the less pleasant part of Exeter is that there is nowhere else with such a high density of restaurants and carpet shops. However, the harbor quarter probably has the highest density of pubs.

The extent of the city since Roman times was obviously enormous, as the old city walls run all the way here and are partially cleverly combined with new elements.

Back at the accommodation, I stumbled upon a seniors' party on the terrace, and the atmosphere seems to be better than at a nearby high school graduation party last night. I personally like the music much better too! Due to the location of the terrace, you can probably hear the music throughout the city :-D
