We leave our hotel and drive to a village to visit the Karen Long Neck Women near Chiang Rai. They originally come from Burma. They have fled and sought refuge in northern Thailand. The women live in small villages and earn a little money through handicrafts. From the age of 3, the girls are already given small brass rings around their necks. Up to 35 rings can be worn, weighing about 10 kg, which they carry on their shoulders. The rings are worn 24 hours a day and a washcloth is passed through when washing. Once a month, the rings are removed and cleaned. For the women, it is a beauty ritual and part of their tradition.
