Day 21: Return journey and conclusion

Ebimisami: 28.07.2023

We start the day early and leave the yard at half past 7 in the morning. The drive to Dover is quick, but there is traffic before the immigration controls at the entrance to the port. It takes a long time and the French passport officers are working too slowly from our point of view. Then we wait again, this time for the check-in for our ferry. It is already shortly after 9 am and our ferry is supposed to depart in 30 minutes. We receive an SMS informing us that it is delayed, which relaxes the check-in procedure. Now we have to wait again. With over an hour delay, boarding starts and the crossing goes smoothly. Fortunately, there is only a little bit of rough sea. It is not until 2 pm that we can leave Calais and start our tour. We get through well, there are no major traffic jams. However, the weather is sometimes bad with a lot of rain, and there are many construction sites that are obstacles. We only reach our house at around 11:15 pm after driving about 800 km. We are glad that everything worked out. We drive about 3000 km in 3 weeks, with the journey there and back consuming half of the kilometers.

Now it's time for a conclusion.
England is a great travel destination. The fear that prices are overpriced or that food is scarce is not confirmed by us. The prices for groceries are comparable to those in Germany. The British are very friendly and accommodating. We feel very comfortable. Joining the Motorhom Club has paid off completely, as the campsites are always clean and well maintained. There is a lot to discover culturally, even though the entrance fees can be quite expensive. Almost 25% of our expenses went towards entrance fees. The only drawback of our trip is the weather. We have never had such bad weather and so much rain in any other vacation. But as we say in Germany, there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing. And true to this motto, we defy the weather and still explore everything we have planned.
