Guinness Book

Ebimisami: 07.11.2018

Today the caravan has to move on. Leave this nice place with Lindy and David and travel into the unknown.

An hour away from Kangaroo Valley is Jervis Bay.

According to the Guinness Book of Records, this is where the whitest sand on the beach is found.

Well, let's see. David gave us the tip that here at the "Club" you have an excellent view of the harbor and one of the many beaches and can have a good lunch.

We reach Huskisson around noon. A small town, fairly central in Jervis Bay. Every place and every beach doesn't seem inviting in cloudy weather. So we were also a bit less enthusiastic. Unfortunately, we were still soooo full from David's delicious and rich breakfast that we didn't feel like having lunch. Plus, right in front of the terrace of the club, there was a digger wreaking havoc, which also spoiled our desire for a drink. By the way, you really get the feeling that the whole of Australia is a construction site. They are building everywhere. Really everywhere.

So we strolled through the small and quite empty town. And what can I say, Australia is also just a village. Yesterday I told you about the waterfall where access has been closed for 2 years. We had chatted a bit with 2 Australians at the waterfall. And who do we meet again 100 km away on the road? Exactly, the 2 of them and we chat again. Quite casually, we learn that today at 3:00 p.m. in Melbourne, a very important horse race takes place and that's why it's a public holiday and everyone is sitting in front of the TV in suspense. I've heard a lot, but a public holiday for a horse race, not only the Romans are crazy.

The Melbourne Cup, the richest horse long-distance race in the world. With a distance of 3200 m and a total prize money of 7.3 million AUS$, of which the winner gets half. This race has been held since 1861 and since 1877 it has been a public holiday in the Melbourne area. A really appropriate day for 3 minutes and 16 seconds of race time. By the way, it always takes place on the first Tuesday in November.

At around 2:30 p.m., after a coffee and a super delicious muffin, we made our way to our new accommodation. The expectations are very high, after the last two accommodations. Especially since it's also the most expensive of the three. According to the hotel description, it's a luxurious place to stay and feel good.

However, the result is sobering. Well, the definition of luxury may be different for everyone, for me this is a bright, clean standard room with 2 separate beds. And what does that mean .......2 duvets - yeah.

There is also a refrigerator, but no bottle of sparkling wine (we had that in the refrigerator in the last two accommodations), so we can't even luxuriously drink the room.

At around 5:00 p.m., the sun managed to break through the clouds and is scorching from the sky. It's amazing how warm it still is at this time.

Then we can convince ourselves of the white beaches. However, we couldn't find the first beach, instead we unintentionally drove into an Aboriginal village, where every street says "not for public traffic". The only road we are allowed to drive is a dead end. So back again. Since there are supposed to be plenty of beaches here, we head to the next one.

On the way from the parking lot to the beach, we saw almost more kangaroos than we did during the rest of the vacation.

One even blocked our way back.

but my brave knight has scared it away. My proud knight without fear and reproach.

The beach was great. A small bay, awesome waves.

At the next beach, we could confirm the claim of having the whitest sand.

Just our luck, no bag again. We must not forget it tomorrow.
