Day 42: Wurm on the Rhine

Another breakfast without muesli. I was already wondering where in the Altstadt-Hotel zu Speyer there was still room for a buffet. Each guest gets the same portions at the table. But it was done very lovingly using small Weck glasses and small plates. This makes it clear: Today is different.
Past the cathedral it goes back to the Rhine, komoot sends me via the Rhine ferry at Rheinhausen. Only the ferry doesn't run. Only FRI/SAT/SUN. That's what it says at the entrance. It would have been a passenger ferry only, no cars. Well, I can put up with 3 km for nothing, it's still early in the day. And there are bridges. There is one in Lingenfeld. I mastered the detour due to the construction site brilliantly, even though there were largely no signs. The signs (yes, it was a mistake not to hang the smartphone with komoot on the handlebars, but what are the signs for???) point me to Rheinsheim and Philippsburg (maybe known for its nuclear power plant), but I will scary. In Russheim, as it turns out later, I'm driving in the wrong direction, namely back. Speyer is getting closer again. So a few strong verbal attacks against routes, signs, komoot, myself - smartphone on the handlebars and cycle strictly according to instructions. The whole thing with increasing heat, at least larger shady parts are included. I also miss the ascent to a bridge because two paths are very close together and I (of course) took the wrong one. A few hundred meters back again, because there is no level crossing at this point, just the bridge.
How happy I am when I see the Rhine again. Even a bench in the shade, right on the Rhine. Longer break, I'm done and ask myself the question of meaning again. I have to fight the last 20 km, it's hot, it's going away from the Rhine, only shade now and then, but no iced coffee. Then: You have reached the goal. Almost 90 km instead of 65.
The friendly lady at the reception recommends a light show at the castle for the evening, but I can't get that done anymore. It's good that the "Achat" has a kitchen. Another aubergine curry, yeast without alcohol, a blog, a bed.
