Only where you have walked... I arrived in Venice at St. Mark's Square today around 2:30 PM. A very nice feeling. Or in other words, my emotions were riding a carousel. What a wonderful time. But first of all, a big thank you to you, Burki. Because without your understanding of this time, it would never have been so beautiful. And I know that it is certainly not easy for you in your situation. Thank you also to my body, which did not let me down, and also to the amazing weather. All of this is not taken for granted. It is a great gift. The most magnificent landscapes were always there, where you really can only get there on foot. It was often so gigantic that I really felt a great gratitude to be able to experience it. It was also a challenge to myself. Fears that I had to overcome. My motto: just do it, the path always somehow continues, and if not, then it just goes back. 😅. Can I do the stage? Can I find the way? What about the bookings? Black mountain trail, okay, it's better not to be completely alone there, etc. But again and again, I realize that if I face the tasks, then it works somehow. Maybe not always on the easy path, but that doesn't matter. I was alone on the way, but I never felt abandoned. Met many nice people, lost them again on the way, sad, but I continued.
This morning, the first 10 km were very pleasant to walk. It went on a flood dam along the Sile River up to Ponte Cavallino. There I turned off my route to get to Pitty. Since she is on vacation here, it was a good opportunity to stop by for breakfast. I was very happy to meet her and her husband. Thanks for the breakfast.
That was also my first contact with the sea. It felt great to walk in briefly, with my backpack. After about 1 hour, I continued, still had 16 km ahead of me. The path afterwards was somewhat okay. It was a long straight path to the ferry terminal. But at least there was a foot and bike path. There was shade from time to time as well. Of course, it also felt good to know that I would soon have made it. From the ferry terminal it took about 30 minutes by boat to St. Mark's Square. I mentally prepared myself for this crowd. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't have been able to stand it. Quickly looked for someone to take a picture of me and continued towards the hotel. Crossed Venice with Google. I didn't get lost, that's the greatest achievement 💪. The hotel is exactly to my taste. A former monastery, furnished in Venetian style, and a beautiful garden courtyard to relax in. And now I'm starving.
Thanks also to Lenny for your trailer, so Grandma couldn't get lost.
And of course, a big thank you to Farina. It was great that you accompanied me for two weekends and that we experienced this time together.
