Municipal election - and an end is in sight

Wednesday, April 13th

The community has elected the successor: the pastor couple - by the way with five children - has been chosen. They were very convincing in the church service and discussion round and bring many gifts that will certainly benefit the community after such a long dry spell.

Our days here are now numbered. Today in a week we will be leaving and flying back to Germany. We are very much looking forward to our home, to the children, grandchildren, friends and relatives... and we have many experiences in our luggage.

The day started a bit autumnal, but the sun is already breaking through by now. Martin is currently preparing a funeral and also has to present the election result with the voting details (list of names, ID numbers) and hand it over to the lawyer. Normally the secretary does that, but she is with her daughter in Scotland for a month. The bureaucracy here in Peru can be quite challenging at times!

Good Friday is a church service and Easter Sunday is our final church service (followed by a baptism), accompanied by a teaching couple who have just arrived in Lima for the start of school. And then it's time to say goodbye. The Christ community here in Lima will hold a very special place in our hearts, as we have grown very fond of the people.

This will probably be my second-to-last post.
