Driving from Auckland to Reglan, I was picked up by Shirley, and together we spent the next three days in an Airbnb close to the coast. Small but lovely. Great landscapes, lots of rain and wind, but we didn’t let that hold us back.
“Whaanga Road,” one of the most beautiful routes in the world as the Airbnb owner told us, and she definitely wasn’t exaggerating. It was a fantastic, winding, and varied road. It offers stunning views of the sea, fields, sheep, and cows, and now and then you drive through the deepest jungle. Truly impressive!
The “Gorge Lookout” was for me the first real WOW effect, an incredible view into the vastness. One feels so free.
The “Raupuke Beach” was another great experience, a black sand beach, big waves, and an impressive mountain backdrop in the background.
Afterwards, it was time to do some laundry since we had to change multiple times because everything got soaked. Shopping back home and pasta with a “Mushroom Alfredo Sauce” for dinner. However, without cheese, because it is expensive and doesn’t taste as good as it does back home.
The next day we admired the “Bridal Waterfall” in somewhat better weather. Also impressive and very well done, you can view the waterfall from 5 different positions.
After a quick nap in the car, we headed to “Ngarunui Beach,” which stretches along the West Coast to Reclam. Lots of great shells and a wide view over the beach.
The next morning, it was time to pack up and go again. However, initially without electricity and water because it had stormed so much during the night that we thought our roof might fly off at any moment.
However, we finally had some sunshine, which we enjoyed very much.
