January 4th Cradle Mountain - Strahan

Ebifulumiziddwa: 09.01.2023

In the morning, we set out for Cradle Mountain - Lake St. Clair National Park. The weather didn't seem to be on our side as it was foggy and hard to see. Oh, maybe even rain today...

After arriving at the Visitor Center, we take a bus to Crater Creek where we start our hikes. The landscape reminds me of the Scottish Highlands. Boggy ground, lots of moss and swamp plants, water that is clean but black from the peaty sediments. And actually, the fog lifts and the sun comes out and it immediately gets hot.

Pictures that try to capture the beauty of the park.

Tasmania was still connected to the mainland about 13,000 years ago, and Aboriginal people have been living here for 35,000 years. The rising water level made Tasmania an isolated island.

Since we weren't out at dusk, we haven't seen any wombats, Tasmanian devils, or wallabies so far...
