Sunset over the Pacific

Ebifulumiziddwa: 13.01.2022

The highlight of my days in Puerto Escondido was the sunset. Every evening, locals and guests were treated to a special spectacle as the sun sank into the sea, turning the sky fiery red. Within minutes, it disappeared completely, leaving behind a warm glow that gradually gave way to darkness. The crescent moon and the stars emerged, and the temperature dropped to a pleasant 25°C.

On Tuesday, Andy headed south along the coast. We agreed to meet again in Mexico City. I also moved on to a new hostel. With a rate of 20 euros per night, Selina was relatively expensive. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my time there. Its excellent location in the Zicatela district offered stunning views of palm trees, the beach, and the ocean. Two swimming pools, hammocks, a rooftop terrace, and a squirrel darting through the bushes provided entertainment during the day.

The heat of the day also invited me to have a leisurely breakfast, read, plan the next days of travel, and write these lines. At the same time, I had several long video calls with friends in Berlin and Potsdam. After all, one and a half months had passed since the end of November. So I was very happy to get an update from Germany. But any trace of homesickness vanished when I looked at the weather radar and the latest news about the coronavirus.

If these pictures trigger wanderlust in those back home, I apologize. Rather, this post is meant to send warm winter greetings and sunshine from southern latitudes to the cold north.
