The sun was shining, palm trees and wide, endless streets. Los Angeles like in a movie. After breakfast, supermarket, homemade iced tea with self-harvested lemons, it was time for a city tour through downtown LA.
Los Angeles has an Old Town that could hardly be more inconspicuous. Small crowded buildings from the 19th century, where Mexican folklore is now sold. The buildings of the Art Deco were much more impressive. Main train station, city hall, library and hotels. It felt like being transported back to the 1920s.
Unlike New York, with its dark brick buildings and Gothic influences, LA was dominated by light sandstone with references to Mexico and ancient Egypt.
We spent the evening on Sunset Blvd, a barnight in Silver Lake, not too late. Closing time in California is 2am. No more alcohol may be sold after that.
